Paint.NET 2.5
01.19.06 (9:15 pm)   [edit]
Have you ever looked around for a great replacement app for MS Paint but couldn't really find one? Well Paint.NET 2.5 is your answer.

Paint.NET originally started as an undergraduate development project at Washington State University and since then, the original students working on the project have graduated, but still work on the application, making it better than ever.

The program is more reminiscent of professional image editing software such as Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop instead of an MS Paint replacement, but this app is really awsome. Features such as photo touch up and a great selection of image effects puts it right up there with photoshop, but the best part is it is totally free. Thats right!

You do need to have the .NET Framework v2.0 installed to run this app, but thats not an issue these days. If you don't currently have .NET 2.0 installed, just run windows update or download it off the microsoft website.

One feature of this application I do like is that all the toolbars can become transparent when they overlap your image which is really great as screen real estate becomes a problem in these apps.

Be sure to check this one out, well worth the massive 3.39MB download. lol.

Justin, hi and thanks for commenting on my blog frequently. Unfortunately your stuff is so technical that I scratch my head trying to make sense of it. Maybe one of these days I will have the brain power to understand technology.

I'll download it and check it out. I like "free". Please continue to give us more info like this. Particularly I am interested in a Microsoft Word replacement. I'm using 602Text, but don't like it. Same with AbiWord. Any suggestions?

I'm concerned about this dotnet framework that I probably have to download. It is a huge download. Do you know much about it? Will it come with spyware, and will it slow down my computer?

nahh don't worry dave. the .NET framework 2.0 is a Microsoft product which allows programs written in .NET to be run. Its similar to how Java application's work how they too need a runtime environment. Don't be alarmed Dave, its a Microsoft product, no spyware. Its a runtime environment for .NET apps.

I downloaded it. In all, sure looks like a powerful paint program. Look forward to using it maybe to improve my banner. Thanks for the tip, and advice.
